Reticle Styles

Leupold offers 16 reticle options in a variety of Leupold scopes.
Each is designed to help you achieve your goals in whatever type of shooting you participate. Several reticles are available as illuminated reticle options in
our Vari-X III line of scopes. To learn which reticles are available for a given scope, select your scope of choice from the Scope Selector™ in the Products
section of this website. If you don’t see the reticle you prefer listed for a particular scope, the Leupold Custom Shop can install any of our reticles in nearly all
of our scopes.

Leupold Dot
A Leupold exclusive, this reticle still has a prominent dot like the so-called “floating dot.” But the thinning portion of the crosshair makes locating the dot much easier.
Fine Duplex
Thinner posts and crosshairs allow for less target coverage, making precision shots on small targets easy.
Duplex
Leupold invented the Duplex design more than 35 years ago. Heavy posts stand out against cover and in twilight conditions, pointing boldly to the intersection. Centering is a snap. The thin crosshairs obscure little.
Heavy Duplex
With its heavy posts, the Heavy Duplex reticle is especially useful in low-light conditions.
CPC
As an alternative to the sharp step-down of the Duplex, the CPC reticle is a steady taper down to a fine intersection. This gives a faster reference than a conventional crosshair by leading your eye to the center.
Post & Duplex
Offering the benefits of both the Duplex and the German #4, the Post & Duplex is a favorite of many hunters.
Target Dot
This is a conventional shooter’s dot, which seems to “float.” The crosshairs are extremely thin.
German #1, #4, Illuminated #4, and Illuminated #4 Dot
These typical European-style reticles are bold and easy to see, especially against tangled backgrounds and shadows.
Crosshair
The conventional crosshair is still a popular choice among shooters because of its simplicity and versatility.
Mil. Dot
Several Leupold riflescopes are available with the Mil. Dot reticle, which was designed to help U.S. Marine Corps estimate distances. It’s now standard for all military branches.
Illuminated Circle Dot
Designed for fast target acquisition in any environment, the Illuminated Circle Dot reticle can also be used to estimate range. Available in the Vari-X III 1.5-5x20mm Illuminated Reticle model and Mark 4® CQ/T™ scopes.
Range Estimating With The Mil. Dot Reticle
With practice, it’s a simple system to use. Dots are spaced in one mil (milliradian) increments on the crosshair. Using the mil formula, a table can be created that is based on the size of the object being targeted. Just look through the scope, bracket the object between dots, and refer to the table for an estimated distance to target. Leupold scopes fitted with the mil dot reticle include more specific instruction on its use.
